Barley

sat at heel,
watches the sky as birds dart around,
watches the barrel of my gun at all times ( not gun shy ! he learned very fast that the gun

Brings the birds down and fetch and dead bird mean he gets to go to work ),
retrieves to heel ( left side ) / hand,

Soft mouthed – even doves with all of their pin feathers etc .. ( still prefers QUAIL scent WAAAAY MORE ! ) ,

Goes into another feverish gear when you say “ Dead Bird “,
obeys whistle command for Here immediately,

Casts and quarters like a pro,
always checks to see where I am at while in field,
works the wind and downwind side of cover methodically !
Goes through a complete elimination of possible hiding spots for his quarry,
Tracks scent cones well.

I am continually amazed at the amount of natural ability that is in Barley’s DNA.
I have been working him into coveys of valley quail and he is doing great , the quail scent  Really fires him up .. He just can’t figure out why I am not shooting yet. ;)

He got his first sight and scent of wild chukar on Sunday.. We were checking a waterhole for
Birds and sure enough there were 11 chukar in the dry river bed on their way to the waterhole
we pulled over to watch them about 50 yds away. Barley was in the back of the Jeep and he
Spotted them immediately through the windshield and was giving them the death stare. As we

Continued to watch,  the chukar got anxious and started to head off in single file across the river bed –WELL, Barley had had enough – next thing you know – BAM out the rear window he went – full extension
As he pushed off out of the window like an Olympic swimmer off of the block at the sound of the gun.Completely horizontal clearing the vehicle by 5 feet and hitting the river bank like the man from snowyRiver going over the hill at full speed. By the time the chukar were clearing the other side of the dry river bed,Barley was hot on their tail and almost caught one of them as he shot up the bank chasing and scattering

The gray bandits all over the sage , it was quite the sight to see.. this was a whole other notch above his

Feverish quail enthusiasm..

Now, of course the out the back window exit has to be dealt with but all in all I couldn’t be happier withBarley and the companion and hunting dog he is turning into … very excited for his and our learning and experienceso come with him.

Thanks for a GREAT DOG !

Facebook invites

Hi We have a closed group for Outback Griffon owners.  I just sent out invites.  If you have email addresses that belong to your spouse, I am glad to add those as well.  This is a fun and close knit group.  All your pups are related to each other for the most part, so be sure to check in.  If you are a new owner we would love to see your pictures as well as the name and call name of your new puppy.  Griffology is a bigger group that can be fun, but I want to retain our intimacy and connections.  It is under Rose & Chrome on facebook.

Change is wait list system

So moving forward, but this does not impact any current requests.  Past buyers who are ready for a puppy will get to enter the list ahead of others but only after I have supplied clients with a puppy that has been waiting for over a year.  And I will still move our past buyers up on the list but making sure that 1 + year waiters are offered a slot on the list.  Here is a small example if  I had 3 male pups available 3 past buyers, 1 client waiting 1 year plus, and 1 client  just added all wanting male pups, ,  I would offer

  1. slot past buyer
  2.  slot past buyer
  3.  slot client waiting 1 plus year
The other past buyer would have to roll until we had another litter as would the newly acquired name.
My problem has been I have had a steady stream of past buyers wanting puppies and with under achieving numbers I have too many folks waiting more than a year.  I think this may be a tad more fair.  As always someone can always defer to the next litter, which means we put it all in order again, always using the original email contact date.  No system is perfectly fair.  And once we get a few good sized litters under our belt this should right itself.

This is not a test you can fail

All our past buyers can relate.  At my kennel I do a great job of whetting your appetite for your new baby.  I post pictures and descriptions, such as they are :}  It is for your enjoyment and to be part of the process.
This is not a test you can fail!
So I encourage you to look over the pictures and you can ask me questions.  But understand, you have selected a breed that is very consistent.  Our owners, just ask them on facebook page, will describe their dogs as adorable, funny, athletes, that LOVE their family. They all have tales of their antics, and they all adore them.
As far as looks,  when you get here you would be hard pressed to even tell them apart once you are here.  Not quite like black lab puppies, but all the spots and dots start whirling together.  Most the dots will disappear, I will point you in the right direction as far as coat length, that said my crystal ball isn't working and ultimately your puppy, as your own children, develop like they are supposed to.
PLEASE have fun.  Everyone wins this.
