Food!!!

I feed Diamond puppy currently.  And I feed Diamond Naturals to our ADULTS.  It is Naturally Preserved, with no added food colorings.  It has been independently analyzed, for content and quality, and it ranks in the top tier of Dog foods. I feed the regular puppy up front but if you have a big growthy puppy consider getting a large breed puppy food to temper their growth.  Depends on the pup.   I am not going to go into my food theory, but you are welcome to read my article on the web page. I think there are multiple good lines of dog food.

You have 2 options when you pick up your puppy. 1st I send you a transition bag, which will last a good week.  You should feed that all the way home and for the first day or so.  Find and research a food source that is local to you, that is of a nutritional quality that you find acceptable.  Hint I cant think of a food you can buy at walmart that meets that minimal quality.

or 2nd, I will buy food the week before you all come.  It comes in a  40# bag and your cost which is a pass thru is $38.  You will need to let me know when we contact each other to confirm your pick up date the week prior to your coming.  The 38 can just be added to the price of your puppy.  Dont forget to purchase your rubber balls :]  I can them for you if you dont have amazon or some other source.

Call to Duty

I am going to invite our new puppy buyers to our owner exclusive Facebook Page, Rose & Chrome.  You will find this group a safe place to ask your questions, share birthdays, and in some cases make life long connections and friendships.  I know of some Griffons that tour visiting other Griffons and the people they own.  Loads of pictures and it is likely if you scroll down you will find full siblings to the puppies you are about to acquire.  Newbies always have questions and our people are very helpful because they been there done that.   If I dont invite you or your family, please ask.  This is not a group for general Griffon owners, this is exclusively people that own Outback Griffons.

Also.... I know you have probably had a puppy previously... but you have a unique opportunity to make this experience so much more.  Please purchase a puppy obedience book.  I have read dozens, and they all have some great techniques.  Implement... your puppies are very smart, and if you know what to ask you will receive 10 fold.  You are excited!  It won't happen later.  Go to AMazon and purchase a book or 2.  Hunters, there are things you could learn, check out someone elses techniques.

If you are a YouTuber.  My favorite thing is to watch videos about training your puppies.  You can see the magic happen before your eyes.  Try subjects like Crate Training, Puppy biting,,, baby Griffons are also known as baby sharks, so get prepared!  This does not have to be a prolonged ordeal.  Jumping, off leash recall, basic skills Dont forget to use your rubber balls for retrieving skills and tooth care.

See OLDER POSTS

I don't erase them.  Go to the photo of the dogs at the pond right above that you will see the link that prompts older posts.  tons of pictures and information,  just keep moving back.

Things to buy.

So I have my favorite things to buy.

I will talk about food a bit later.

An old fishing pole, preferably from some nice yard sale.  It will be used to attach a bird wing, which will aid in training the ultimate command WHOA.  Similar to freeze.  It allows you to cast out the wing drag it in front of your puppy and quickly take it up if the puppy tries to pounce.  Author Wolters training technique.  Lots of newer authors .  This book was written in 1961.  It taught me the basics.  There are many great books.  And I take a little bit from lots of training techniques.  $18.99

Mars Coat King Original Dematting Undercoat Grooming Rake Stripper Tool for Dogs and Cats, Stainless Steel with Wooden Handle, Made in Germany, 12-Blade $36

  • Quickly and easily remove loose hair, especially thick undercoats

  • Safari - Dog Dematting Comb$13.50 Both these tools are nice for medium to fluffy coats.  Not so much now but as they mature.

Dog Comb for Removes Tangles and Knots $10.99 I like the comfort handle but all metal ones are cheaper and work well. Works for all coat lengths.

Rubber Balls with holes in them for treats.  Griffon Puppies often suffer from Base Narrow usually only one  sided, where the errant bottom canine angles in instead of out.  So I would like you all to invest in some nice solid rubber balls which will aid in keeping baby teeth from being pulled.  Even if your puppy needs her canine pulled you will want to then use the bigger rubber ball to keep the new adult tooth headed in the correct direction. This is not something we see or can identify when you get your puppy but playing retrieve 3 to 4 times a day about 10 to 15 minute sessions will help push those movable teeth out.   .  FYI I do not cover baby teeth removal, just part of owning a puppy sometimes.

KONG - Extreme Ball - Durable Rubber Dog Toy for Power Chewers, Black - for Medium/Large Dogs $10 for the 7 week old puppy, followed by the MEDIUM $14.00 or your 12 week old puppy.
